BLUFFTON, Ohio - Despite a strong first half, the Bluffton University men’s soccer team was unable to punch a goal in on the top team in the HCAC standings, as they fell to the Transylvania University Pioneers, 2-0, on Saturday, Oct. 25, in a match played at Steinmetz Field, home of the Bluffton H.S. Pirates.. The win keeps Transylvania at the top of the HCAC at 5-1-1 and 9-5-1 overall, while the Beavers fell to 2-5 in the conference and 5-12 overall.
The first half ended scoreless with most of the action staying in the midfield and Transylvania leading just 4-1 in the shot category. The Pioneers finally cracked the scoring column early in the second stanza when Max Robinson buried a header into the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Riley Calhoon added the second goal of the half in the 72nd minute to finish off the Beavers.
Transylvania led the shot category by a slight margin of 12-8, while fouls were even with each team earning 11 whistles. Blake Drewes (Archbold) led the Beavers in shots with two, both of them being on frame. Bluffton keeper Jeff Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Bethany Christian) tallied four saves in the shutout loss.
