Bluffton's thundering herd
A herd of over 25 deer spent some time Sunday afternoon in the Del and Susie Gratz field on Augsburger Road. As a point of interest, this proves there are more deer in the Bluffton Pandora community than there were when our ancestors were first here. From "Life in Bluffton and Pandora Community 1877-1910" compiled by Edgar Schumaher, comes this brief account from the Nov. 19, 1896, Bluffton News: "A deer was killed near Putnam County line and the Blanchard River. This is the first deer that was killed in this section for many years and it is supposed it was driven from the wilds of Michigan." (Mary Pannabecker Steiner cell phone photo)
