Bertie will celebrate her 100th birthday on Friday, April 10. She was born the youngest of 10 children to Charles and Louisa Ramga Shrider near Lafayette, Ohio, in 1915, graduated from Lafayette High School in 1932, and married Frederick Swank of Bluffton in 1943.

While raising three children, Nancy Yeager, Linda Benroth and Bill Swank, she worked at Pine’s Restaurant, did laundry for local businessmen, ran the Bluffton Bowling Alley snack bar, and became the dietician at Bluffton Hospital.  She is a member of St. John’s UCC, Bluffton. She has nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
