Dr. Diana Kleman, an assistant professor of social work at Bluffton University, will address elementary teachers’ perceptions of working with children in foster care during a campus colloquium on Friday, April 17.

Free and open to the public, her talk will begin at 4 p.m. in Stutzman Lecture Hall in Bluffton’s Centennial Hall.

“On any given day in the United States, 500,000 children are in foster care,” Kleman notes. “The trauma that preceded placement into foster care, and the numerous losses experienced when placed into foster care, impact the educational process of these children.” She researched this issue for her doctoral dissertation at The Ohio State University and will share the findings of her interviews with 25 classroom teachers regarding their experiences with such children.
