Lima Symphony Orchestra performs free patriotic pops concert July 4 at ONU
FROM THE ADA ICON - Patriotic classics, American standards, and popular movie and Broadway tunes will highlight the Lima Symphony Orchestra’s Fourth of July “Patriotic Pops” celebration on the campus of Ohio Northern University. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert will take place on the sculpture mall east of McIntosh Center between Presser and Weber halls. This will be a fun-filled family event exploding with patriotic music and a tribute to our armed services. The concert begins at 7 p.m.
Featuring guest vocalist Kirsten Osbun-Manley, Ohio Northern University resident artist in music and lecturer in music and musical theatre, on selected songs, the Lima Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform a variety of songs such as “An American Fantasie,” a medley of patriotic classics, selections from “West Side Story,” and a celebration of Marvin Hamlisch’s music.
Songs from popular movies such as “Titanic,” “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” also will be performed. Tchaikovsky’s famed “1812 Overture” will cap off the evening’s concert.
Osbun-Manley is member of Actors’ Equity Association, National Association for Teachers of Singing, and The Musical Theatre Educators Alliance. She is an active adjudicator for many operatic, vocal and choral competitions throughout the state of Ohio. Osbun-Manley has extensive performance experience in a wide variety of musical genres, including art song, chamber music, oratorio, opera and music theatre.
She has appeared in recital and concert in performance venues throughout the Great Lakes region. Recently, she was the featured soprano soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C minor and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Serenade to Music with the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
Attendees are encouraged to come early, bring lawn chairs, blankets and their favorite picnic foods, and enjoy an evening of music with family, friends and neighbors on the scenic ONU campus. If inclement weather occurs, the event will be held in King Horn Center.
