Golf scramble raises about $5,000 for Bluffton athletics
Bluffton University’s 18th annual Alumni and Friends Golf Scramble raised roughly $5,000 for university athletics through TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Bluffton.
The July 18 event drew 84 golfers to Harrod’s Colonial Golfers Club.
The winners of the scramble received monetary prizes. The team of Bill Boroff, Bryan Lawson and Tara Liebert took first place. Second place went to the foursome of Mike Richards, John Brown, Clair Recker and Mike McClure. Comprising the third-place team were Jim Knox, Denny Thompson, Jim Frisk and Jeff Deyling.
Awards were also given to Chad Kinyon and Frisk, for the long drives by a man on the ninth and 10th holes, respectively, and to Sandy Doan for longest drive by a woman.
Ballard Smith made the longest putt on the 18th hole, while Troy Selover and Boroff were closest to the pin with their tee shots on the par-3 fourth and 13th holes, respectively.
TEAM Bluffton was established in 2004 to provide financial assistance to the Bluffton athletics program. The funds, provided by alumni, parents and friends who are passionate about athletics at the university, assist the sports program and special projects and needs identified by the athletics department.
