Bluffton Public Library has busy August planned
On Saturdays, August 1st, 15th, and 29th at 10am stop by the library to read a book to a certified therapy dog. Teddy loves hearing stories or just getting a friendly cuddle from children, teens, college students, or whoever. This program supports literacy, the humane treatment of animals, and healthy stress relief practices.
The Dulcimers @ the Library continue to meet at the library on Tuesdays-- now starting at 1pm. Come to any meeting to join.
On August 4th at 10am, the library will feature a program called Make a Boat (for grades K-5). Registration is required, and children will build their own floating boat!
Space Art continues into August due to rain in early July. This program features local artist Ed Yagerman, and has been a blast each time BPL has done it in the past. On August 4th, join us for Etching, a more advanced spray paint art for adults and teens with adult supervision. Register at the circulation desk, pick up the short list of supplies for each session, and don't forget to wear old clothes. Participants will walk away with their own art piece!
BPL now offers English as a Second Language classes, provided and facilitated by trained instructors volunteering their time. These classes meet at the library on Wednesdays at 6:30pm and feature beginning and intermediate English training for all ages. This opportunity is open to all community members looking to improve their English, and you do not need to attend every session to enroll. However, don’t forget to register at the front desk beforehand.
On August 5th, our monthly Noon Book Discussion group will meet to discuss the book A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. Members of this group must register to participate, and if you have not registered yet, but would like to now, you can still be a part of the discussion of Me Before You by Jojo Moyes on September 2nd! Registration for all library events can be made at our front desk, by phone (419-358-5016), or on our website.
Jammin' @ the Library will meet August 10th and 24th, both at 6pm. This ongoing program is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather “Song Circle” style and share their love of music.
On August 11th from 3 to 5pm, 8 participants will be able to Make a Pinhole Camera (6th grade through adult). Stay tuned for more information about this program; registration is required.
The library’s Anime Club will meet at 6pm on August 19th. For more information, email [email protected].
Storytime continues into August with a special Storytime at the Farmer’s Market session on August 22nd at 9am and Family Storytime sessions on Monday, August 24th at 6:30pm or Tuesday, August 25th at 10am. Please note that registration is required for each Storytime season and spaces may already be full.
The Gluten and Food Allergy Support Group continues in August. This month’s meeting is August 24th at 6pm on the lower level of the library. Come to a meeting to join!
On August 27th at 4pm, children (K-5) with inquisitive minds are invited for Brain Builders! Join us to solve problems and experiment with LEGO and other materials. Registration is required and spots fill up quickly.
Bluffton Public Library will host a presentation by SOSBI (Southeastern Ohio Society for Bigfoot Investigation) on August 27th at 6pm. This event will include a presentation by the group’s founder, Doug Waller. There will also be time for the audience to report their own Bigfoot sightings and to ask questions about Waller’s travels, Bigfoot hunting, and the process of writing his books. Everyone is welcome at this free event! This program and the refreshments provided are brought to you by Bluffton Public Library with generous assistance from the Friends of the Bluffton Public Library. If you think you’ve seen or heard Bigfoot, these guys want to hear about it!
Be on the lookout for our Local Scouting Groups Display for the month of August! The display will feature information, pictures, and/or crafts from local Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Heritage Girls.
Please note: The library will be closed on Thursday, August 13th for a system update and staff in-service day. All due dates have been adjusted accordingly.
