Another Bluffton weekend with lots of activities
Looks like another fun weekend with plenty of activities planned in Bluffton.
Here's a capsule of events:
Friday
Bluffton Family Recreation will hold a Harlan’s chicken barbecue from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Friday, in the BFR parking lot.
The barbecue is a fundraiser for the BFR turf project for the gym and arena. Tickets are $10 each. Each meal includes one-half chicken, potato salad, green beans and a roll.
Tickets are on sale at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.
Saturday
Bluffton Presbyterian Church - The second in a series of monthly concerts on the lawn at Bluffton Presbyterian takes place Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
This event will be an old-fashioned sing-along. Remember (before gadgets and earphones) when family and friends would gather around the piano and share the fun of singing old and new favorites?
The musicians at Bluffton Presbyterian will be on hand Saturday morning with song sheets to entice the community to participate in some good music and fellowship.
Jayne McGarrity, keyboard, Dave Sycks, trumpet, Tanya Best, drums and BPC singers will lead the group in songs such as God Bless America, Give My Regards to Broadway, Rock-A-My Soul, Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’, This Land is Your Land, Yesterday, Precious Lord, Take My Hand, Over the Rainbow, Rock Around the Clock, Let It Be, You’re a Grand Old Flag, You’ve Got a Friend, and more.
Paws to Read - Saturday at 10 a.m. youngsters may read to a certified therapy dog at the Bluffton Public Library.
"Teddy," the dog, loves hearing stories or just getting a friendly cuddle from children, teens and adults. This program supports literacy, the humane treatment of animals and healthy stress relief practicies. He returns on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Bluffton Famers' Market, open from 8:30 a.m. to noon, will be visited by Jim Boedicker, musician. He will perform in the front of the market.
Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., will hold its annual concert on the lawn at 6:30 p.m., Saturday.
"Come and enjoy the music of the Lima Area Concert Band Come and help us celebrate Mennonite Memorial Home’s 60th anniversary," said Laura Voth, Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio CEO.
The concert will include music from the 1950’s and 1960’s in addition to some patriotic selections. Bring a lawn chair and an appetite. There will be free ice cream, popcorn and beverages along with the fellowship of family and friends.
