BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team kicked off its home opener against the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets on a hot and humid Tuesday, Sept. 1. The Beavers (0-1) fought hard but came up just short with a 2-0 loss against the Yellow Jackets (1-0).
The early stages of the contest were a constant battle between the two sides. Baldwin Wallace was able to slide past the defense as they converted at the 17:04 mark in the first half. The Beavers did not back down as the home team tried to get the ball into the back of the net. It wasn't until the 73rd minute when the Yellow Jackets were able to score their second goal.
The Yellow Jackets outshot the Beavers, 22-6, including 13-9 on frame. The home team was led by senior Grant Stutzman (Sugarcreek/Hiland) with four shots. Bluffton keeper Matt Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, PA/Home) racked up a total of 11 saves while Baldwin Wallace keeper Zach Haynes finished with three saves.
The Beavers return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. against the Adrian College Bulldogs. Wear your purple and come out to support your fellow Beavers at the Sears Complex!
