Women's Soccer hands Coach Gottschalk first win

DETROIT, Mich. - The Bluffton University women’s soccer team took on the Mustangs of Marygrove College on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015. The Beavers went up 5-0 and were victorious 5-2. It marks Bluffton's first win (1-1) of the season and gives Head Coach Rhonda Gottschalk her first victory as a collegiate head coach! The Mustangs dropped to 0-2 on the season.
Bluffton was the first squad to get on the board after a goal by BETH SNYDER (Akron, NY/Akron Central) in the 15th minute. The Beavers pushed the score to 3-0 with back-to-back goals by freshmen SKYLER LIMING (St. Marys/Memorial) and ASHLEY KELLER (Piqua/Lehman Catholic) in the 24th minute and in the 29th minute. Another goal by Liming in the 76th minute made the score 4-0. AMANDA MERRELL (Cincinnati/Cincinnati Christian) capped Bluffton's scoring in the 81st minute before Marygrove made it 5-2 with a pair of late tallies.
The Beavers kept the Mustang keeper busy as they fired 23 total shots, including 15 on frame, for the afternoon. Bluffton played great defense in the win, allowing only six shots by Marygrove.
Bluffton will look to improve its record when the Beavers welcome the Mount Union Purple Raiders on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The first game of the women's and men's doubleheader is slated to kick off at 3 p.m. Come out and support your Bluffton Beavers!
