SYLVANIA, Ohio - The Bluffton Beaver women’s soccer team fell victim to a late goal, dropping a 1-0 decision to Lourdes University on Saturday, Sept. 12. The loss knocked the Beavers back to the .500 mark at 2-2, while the Gray Wolves improved to 1-1-1 on the young season with the first women's soccer victory in school history.
The first half was controlled by the Gray Wolves as they outshot the Beavers by an 11-1 margin. However, Ashley Knippen (Wapakoneta) was able to make five saves and the score would remain 0-0 at the break. The second half would continue to be more of the same with Lourdes firing the first four attempts of the stanza. After the Beavers took a pair of shots, the home team’s Jada Foster would strike for the lone goal of the game, enough for a 1-0 victory.
Knippen finished the contest with six saves in her first loss of the 2015 campaign. Bluffton was outshot 20-7 for the match. Skylar Liming (St. Marys/Memorial) Beth Snyder (Akron, NY/Akron Central), and Katelyn Gardella (Troy/Miami East) all chipped in two shots for the Beavers.
The Beavers return to the comfy confines of Bluffton University to kick off a three-match homestand, starting with the Olivet College Comets on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. Come support your Beavers!
