Volleyball opens 2-0 at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio - On the first day of the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic Bluffton came out strong. The Beavers
took the first set, 25-23. Bluffton kept the pace going, taking set two with a 25-19 victory before capping the win in the third set, 25-20. With the victory, Bluffton improved to 4-6 on the season while Muskingum stands 7-5 after day one at Wooster.
Leading the Beavers offensively with 15 kills was MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) and she was followed by seniors Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial) and Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) with eight kills apiece. Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) dished out 33 assists while libero Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) led the team with 11 digs.
The Beavers had a short break and returned to face Pitt-Bradford in the 7:30 PM match. Bluffton came out flat against the Panthers, falling 25-22 in set one. The Beavers got it together offensively in the second set, posting a 25-15 victory to even the match. From there Bluffton continued to pour it on, taking set three, 25-12, and wrapping up the victory with a 25-17 win.
Setting the pace for the Beavers was freshman setter Erin Weisgarber with 42 assists, and MacKenzie McFarlin with 20 kills and 19 digs. Jenny Brown
followed closely behind with 12 kills and Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) was in on five blocks. Erin Helms (Arlington) chipped in 11 digs, while Erin Weisgarber and Sydney Mohler both tallied 10 pickups..
The Beavers will be back in action on Saturday in Timken Gymnasium, facing Capital University at 12 p.m. and The College of Wooster at 2 p.m.
