BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women’s soccer team could not hold on to a 2-0 lead and dropped a tough decision to Heidelberg, 3-2, in overtime on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The loss dropped the Beavers to 4-5, while Heidelberg improved to 5-5 on the year.

The Beavers started the scoring very quickly on a goal from Beth Snyder (Akron, NY/Akron Central) following a cross from Ashley Keller (Piqua/Lehman Catholic) in the seventh minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Despite a mid-half flurry of shots from Heidelberg, the Beavers kept the shutout alive for the stanza. In the 44th minute, Keller would find the back of the net to make it a 2-0 contest heading to the break.

The second half featured plenty more back-and-forth action, but this time it was the home team that would take advantage of opportunities with two scores of their own in the 58th and 66th minutes to tie the contest at two goals apiece, which was where it stood entering the extra frame. But the Student Princes would not wait long as just 57 seconds into the period, Marisa Mowery scored her first of the season, handing Heidelberg the 3-2 overtime victory.

The Student Princes finished the contest with a slight 15-12 edge in shots. Each team put nine attempts on frame. Bluffton senior Ashley Knippen(Wapakoneta) came up with with six saves on the match, while Heidelberg’s Alexandra Farmer finished with seven. Keller paced the visitors with three shots, as well as a goal and an assist in the loss.

Bluffton ventures into conference play on Saturday, Oct. 3, as they take on the Hanover College Panthers at the Sears Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Come support your Beavers!
