Maple Crest Senior Living Community, Bluffton, will host its annual fall pie-baking contest, with over $300 in cash prizes on Friday, Nov. 6. Persons interested in entering must register by Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Contestants may enter as many different pies as they wish. The contest has three categories: cream, fruit and nut pies.
The pie contest is open to all bakers. Judging will be based on taste, appearance and texture. Cash prizes will be given in the different categories.
The grand prize for the best overall pie is $100. There are cash prizes in the other categories.
Pie judging begins at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, in the Maple Crest Patio Room. Each contestant brings two pies of the same recipe to enter. One pie is for the judges to view and sample. The second pie is for a silent auction. Pies to be judged must be delivered by 2 p.m., the day of the contest.
A spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. takes place the evening of the contest.
The cost is $7 for a spaghetti dinner with breadsticks, salad, dessert (the contest pies), and a beverage.
Persons attending may bid on the pies in the silent auction beginning at 4:30 p.m. Each pie has an $8 opening bid. All proceeds will benefit the Maple Crest Activities Program.
