FRANKLIN, Ohio - The Bluffton University women’s soccer team traveled to face Franklin College and fell in a heartbreaker on Saturday, Oct. 17. A couple late Grizzly goals dropped the Beavers to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the Heartland Conference. Franklin improves to 12-1 on the season and stays undefeated in the HCAC at 5-0.
Franklin was the first team to get on the board after a goal in the 11th minute. The visitors answered with a goal of their own in the 18th minute off a successful penalty kick by ASHLEY KELLER (Piqua/Lehman Catholic). They would go into halftime tied at 1-1.
Bluffton took its first lead eight minutes into the second half after Keller notched her 11th goal of the season (3rd in the HCAC). The home team tied it up at two in the 79th minute, then went ahead 3-2 just two minutes later.
Franklin outshot the Beavers, 16-6, but Bluffton keeper ASHLEY KNIPPEN (Wapakoneta/Wapakoneta) collected nine saves in the win, compared to Franklin goalie Kelsie Williams who turned away three on the day. The home squad had seven more opportunities on corner kicks (10-3).
The Beavers will look to get back in the win column when they welcome rival Defiance College on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The contest is set to start at 3:30 p.m. Come out and support your Beavers!
