CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team held Mount St. Joseph at bay for over 60 minutes, but a Lions' goal midway through period two proved to be the difference in a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015. Bluffton dipped to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the Heartland Conference. MSJ clinched a berth in the conference tournament while improving to 10-5-2 and 5-2-1 in the HCAC.
The Beavers were outshot 6-2 in the opening stanza, but Ashley Knippen (Wapakoneta) was there for four saves to keep it scoreless at the break. But that would change in the 67th minute as Kaylan Gruber buried one into the back of the net for the only goal of the contest, giving the Lions a 1-0 victory.
Mount St Joseph fashioned an 18-4 shots margin on the night, including 12-4 on frame. The Beavers were led by Ashley Keller (Piqua/Lehman Catholic) with two shots, both on goal. Ashley Knippen finished the contest with 11 saves in a losing effort.
The Beavers will cap off their 2015 campaign on Saturday, Oct. 31, with a home contest against Rose-Hulman. The Senior Day matchup is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the Sears Complex. Come support your Beavers!
