All-HCAC Men's Soccer awards announced
November 12, 2015
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Heartland Conference has announced its All-HCAC selections following the 2015 men's soccer season. A pair of Beavers earned Honorable Mention selection as voted on by the head coaches prior to the HCAC tournament. Senior Ryan Johnson-Evers (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and junior Matt Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, PA/Home) were recognized for their work on the pitch this season.
A standout from day one at Bluffton, Johnson-Evers ended his career with starts in all 68 matches that he played in as a Beaver. He finished with two goals, second-most on the team to fellow senior John Eckenrode (Northwood/Millbury Lake) who knocked in five tallies. Johnson-Evers showed his versatility this season after spending the bulk of his first three years anchoring the backfield. He helped the Beavers limit Heartland Conference opponents to an all-time low 12 goals as a junior. Johnson-Evers finished his career with three goals, including a penalty kick this year, and one assist on 29 total shots. It marks the fourth straight season that Johnson-Evers has been honored by the conference coaches as he was named Second Team All-HCAC the past three years. He has also been a model student, earning Academic All-HCAC honors for each season in which he was eligible.
Junior Matt Hardman-Zimmerman collected his first piece of post-season hardware after turning away 121 shots this season. His 121 saves are 12th on the all-time list for a single season and his 174 career saves place him 10th all-time with one season to play. He finished the season with a .729 save percentage and allowed just 2.57 goals per 90 minutes.
In conjunction with the All-HCAC selections, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference also announced the All-HCAC Sportsmanship Team for the fall of 2015. Senior Appiah Adubofour (Kumasi/Ghana) was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team from Bluffton. This award has been developed as part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-HCAC Sportsmanship team are selected by the coaches and their teammates as individuals who demonstrate the ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field/court of competition.
The Bluffton University men's soccer team finished its 2015 campaign with a record of 0-15-2 overall and 0-7-2 in the Heartland Conference. Full statistics and information on the 2015 season are available online at www.blufftonbeavers.com/menssoccer.
