Edward Murphy was active in Boy Scouts
Edward C. Murphy Jr., 79, died Nov. 12, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
Ed was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Lima to Edward and Philomena (Sheridan) Murphy who preceded him in death. On Sept. 2, 1961 he married Margaret "Peg" (Immele) Murphy and she survives.
Ed retired as an educator and guidance counselor at Apollo Career Center, Lima. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton. He graduated from St. John High School, Lima, received his bachelor's degree from Ohio Northern University where he was a member Theta Kappa/Phi Kappa Theta Catholic fraternity. He later received his master's degree from Bowling Green State University where he was a member of Mensa.
He enjoyed working for Ted Hover Electronics for many years. Ed also worked for Shawnee Council, Put Han Sen Council and Black Swamp Area Council Boy Scouts of America. He had also worked at Camp Lakota, Camp Berry and Camp Pioneer. Ed was active in Friends of Camp Berry and was a member of the National Rifle Association and was a shooting instructor for BSA. He received the Silver Beaver Award and the St. George (Catholic Scouting Award). Ed was a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Ohio National Guard from 1959 to 1996.
Survivors also include three children, Kevin (Fay) Murphy of Lima, Kathleen (Paul) Cramer of Dunkirk, Philip (Lisa) Murphy of Bluffton; three grandchildren Michael (Sarah) Murphy, Kylie Murphy, Joshua (Niki) Cramer; and a great grandson, Bowen Cramer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton. Father John Stites to officiate the service.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Bluffton following the service with military rites. Visitation will be Monday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton where a wake service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Black Swamp Area Boy Scouts of America.
