Awareness event Feb. 10 for basketball player diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma
The Bluffton University men’s basketball team will raise funds and awareness for cancer during an event in honor of a fellow teammate.
“’Hop’ on board to fight lymphoma,” will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 10, during the men’s and women’s basketball double-header against rival Defiance.
The women’s home game begins at 6 p.m. with the men’s game to follow at 8 p.m.
The event will honor Adam “Hop” Hopkins, a junior on the team from LaGrange, Ohio, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. He has begun chemotherapy treatments and is no longer playing basketball, but he is very much part of the team.
A table for donations will be at the entrance of Sommer Center, wristbands will be for sale and a portion of game day ticket sales will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in support of Hopkins.
The Bluffton University baseball team’s annual fundraiser, in which team members shave their heads for cancer awareness, will also be dedicated to Hopkins. Details of that event are forthcoming.
