CoSIDA All-District release

BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton's MACEY SHEERER (Bucyrus) was recently named Academic All-District by CoSida. Sheerer was named First Team All-District. The sophomore was one of just two Heartland Conference women's basketball players, along with Kelsey Tietje of Defiance, to be honored in District 7. Sheerer is the first-ever Bluffton women's basketball player to be recognized as Academic All-District by CoSIDA. She is also the first Bluffton athlete since Jess Kuzara and Tim Webb (2014) to be named Academic All-District.

Sheerer is a sports management major with a 3.87 grade point average. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Leading a balanced offense that has six players averaging at least 7.8 points per game, Sheerer is dropping in 12.7 PPG and shooting 56.4 percent (101-179) from the field to go along with 8.0 RPG. She is fifth in the HCAC for RPG and tops in field goal percentage. Sheerer also leads the Heartland Conference with 71 offensive rebounds.

Sheerer finished the 2014-15 season averaging 12.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest. She also led the Beavers in field goal percentage, shooting 46.4 percent from the floor. Her 174 rebounds placed her third in the HCAC in total rebounds. Sheerer was the HCAC Player of the Week for her work in late-season wins over MSJ and Rose-Hulman. Macey’s season high for scoring came in Bluffton's HCAC Tournament opening win over Manchester when she dropped in 26 points, a crucial factor in the 57-50 victory.

Bluffton has exploded for season records in back-to-back campaigns since Sheerer came on the scene. The versatile standout helped the Beavers to an 18-9 mark a season ago, besting the previous mark of 16 victories, before rolling past that mark with 20 wins in their first 22 games this season.

The women notched their first-ever appearance in the D3hoops.com national Top 25 poll on January 25. The Beavers had been receiving votes for a few weeks, but consecutive home Saturday drubbings of Hanover and Franklin, two teams that had a combined mark of 75-11 against Bluffton,                           propelled the women to #21 in the nation. Bluffton also made its first-ever appearance in the USA Today/Coaches Poll the same week and the Beavers are currently ranked #24 heading into their Hall of Fame Day clash with Anderson University.
