Teams and partners now signing up to participate in Bluffton's Summer Olympics
If you think the summer Olympic games take place in Rio, you are partially correct. Bluffton will also host an Olympics of its own – and you can participate.
Bluffton Family Recreation in cooperation with the Village of Bluffton and the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a one-day Bluffton Community Olympics on Saturday, July 30, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.
The event is still a work in progress, but here are some of the highlights:
• Proceeds from the Olympics will benefit the BFR’s new turf and equipment fund.
• Teams from businesses, organizations, families, neighbors or friends may enter the games. A 10-member team with five men and five women can enter for $350. Team members must be 18 or older.
• The Olympics starts at 8 a.m. and concludes by mid-afternoon.
.
• BFR invites businesses, organizations and groups to become Olympic partners by contributing $500 or more toward the event. Partners may enter a team at no charge, will be recognized several ways and will assist in helping with the Olympics.
• BFR also encourages sponsors for the event. Sponsors will be responsible for running specific events and serving as judges. Sponsors will also create three “medals” for the top three place winners in their event.
• Team registrations are now being accepted. Sign-up deadline is April 15. Registration fees are due by May 31.
• The Olympics will have eight events. From two to four team members participate in each event. The obstacle course at the conclusion of the Olympics will include all team members participating.
Morning events include:
50-meter inner tube relay race
Shuffleboard
Trail run
Sand volleyball
Afternoon events include:
Basketball H.O.R.S.E competition
Corn hole tournament
Horseshoes
Obstacle course
