Icon asks voters to support both local levies on Tuesday
Two significant local levies are on the March 15 local ballot:
• Bluffton school income tax renewal levy
• Bluffton Public Library renewal levy
Both deserve every voter’s support.
School levy highlights
Money generated by the school levy is used to replace roofs, buy new busses, remodel classrooms, air condition the elementary, purchase new boilers and update technology, etc. The money is not and cannot be used for salaries or fringe benefits.
Bluffton’s per pupil spending is already very low. In fiscal year 2014 it was $8,526, which is less than its expenditure of $8,641 per pupil in fiscal year 2011. Despite that our district’s academic achievements are very high.
Library levy highlights
Our library received a severe state funding cut in the early 2000. In 2012 it was further reduced. Its state funding remains frozen at reduced levels into 2015.
In reality, it’s difficult to believe that the library operates on funding levels from the 1990s.
Vote Yes
Both the school and library have demonstrated good financial decision-making.
When you vote to support your school district and your public library, you vote
for your community.
Your community deserves a “yes” vote.
