Darlyn Rae "Darly" Sommers was retired from nursing at Bluffton Hospital
Darlyn Rae "Darly" Sommers, 84, of Bluffton, died March 20, 2016, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
Darlyn was born May 1, 1931, in Allen County Ohio to Calvin and Huldah (Badertscher) Garmatter who preceded her in death. On March 14, 1953, Darlyn married Dean Robert Sommers at the Ebenezer Mennonite Church. They were married over 63 years. Dean survives Darlyn in Bluffton.
Also survivoring are sons, William Dean, Bluffton, Thomas Ray, Columbus Grove, and daughter-in-law Debra Sommers, Powell. Darlyn also is survived by two granddaughters, Jenè (fiancé Collin Reid) and Adel Sommers, three grandsons, Andrew (Alli), Eric (Amanda), and Ryan Sommers, and six great grandchildren: Madison, Zander, Olivia, Tessa, Candance, and Kaylessa Sommers. One sister, Doris Hamman lives in Bluffton, two sisters, Marcene and JuLee and one brother Calvin Lynn (Buddy) preceded her in death.
Preceeding her in death are sons, Roger Wayne (died 1972) and Daniel Lee (died 2014).
Darlyn graduated from Bluffton High School in 1949. During high school she enjoyed acting in school plays and passed this talent to her children and grandchildren. Following high school. Darlyn trained as a nurse at Bluffton Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton, with Revs. Dick Potter and Jim King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
