Here's a Bluffton bridge you never crossed
That's right. You've never crossed this bridge.
At one time it crossed Riley Creek and based upon the era of this photo, the bridge was a fixture in the early 1900s. The photo is from a collection of Bluffton photos taken by pioneer photograher Will Triplett.
This photo might be near Foxes Hill south of Bluffton. Notice that someone is on bridge. Also notice the picket fence on the "bluff" if you can call it a bluff.
Also, notice the photographer's artistic touch: see the bridge reflection in the stream. And, this is an unusual photo because of its horizontal make up. We wonder if it might be two negatives attached together to create this photograph.
Legend has it that in the 1920s, on the left side of the photo, which was the Anderson farm, there existed one of the meanest bulls in Bluffton history. It was a sort of dare for high school-aged students to test their bravery or stupidity with the animal.
