Women's Soccer falls to rival Yellow Jackets

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team made the short trip to rival Defiance College and came up on the short end of an 8-1 victory by the Yellow Jackets. Defiance improved to 1-7 overall and 1-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Bluffton slipped to 0-7 and 0-2 in the HCAC.

Brittany Huff (Union/Northmont) drilled a free kick midway through period one, making it a two-goal match, 3-1, in favor of the home Jackets, but Defiance found the back of the net five more times after the break for a convincing 8-1 win.

The home team finished with a decided 29-11 edge in shots, including 17-4 on target. Defiance was whistled for 10 fouls, compared to just four for Bluffton. The Jackets forced three more corner kicks (5-2) as freshman keeper Kayla Penrod (Marysville) tallied nine saves. Skylar Liming (St. Marys/Memorial) led the Bluffton offense with six shots, two on frame. Huff notched her second score of the season.

Bluffton returns to the Sears Complex for a meeting with Franklin College on Saturday, Oct. 8. The contest is slated for 1 p.m. and it will precede the men's match with the Grizzlies at 3:30 p.m. Come out and support your Beavers!
