BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Beavers came to play on Friday, Oct. 21, in a non-conference match against Wilmington College. Bluffton volleyball was in control from the first serve, downing Wilmington by a convincing 25-12 margin after a quick 6-0 start. The home team was able to spread the wealth, taking sets two and three (25-14 and 25-18) to cap off the sweep. Bluffton improved to 19-7 on the season, while Wilmington slipped to 3-21.
Leading Bluffton at the net was sophomore setter ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) who pounded a career-high 11 kills while directing the offense with 22 assists. She needed just 15 swings and spiked her way to a sterling .600 hitting percentage! Also getting it done up front were senior captains MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) and LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) who hammered home eight kills apiece. Lauren had no errors for a .615 hitting percentage, while McFarlin finished with just one for a .438 attack percentage.
The defense was led by SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) who picked up seven digs. Abby Rohrbach (New Knoxville) and ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) chipped in with six pickups. McFarlin, Rohrbach, and Erin Weisgarber could not be stopped from the service line, all rifling two aces apiece. Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/River View) and the Weisgarber sisters were in on three blocks each for the victors.
The Beavers will be back in action Sunday, Oct. 23, for Alumni Day at 2 p.m. against the Rose-Human Institute of Technology. Come out and cap your weekend of Bluffton athletics with a crucial Heartland Conference showdown in the Sommer Center!
