New art exhibit opens Jan. 8 in Albrecht Gallery
Bluffton University’s Grace Albrecht Gallery will host “Twee Kunstenaars” by Tom Duimstra and Michael Peoples.
Opening Jan. 8, the exhibit is free and open to the public through Jan. 27. Gallery hours in the Sauder Visual Arts Center are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A reception for the artists will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22.
“Twee Kunstenaars” is Dutch for two artists. The works by Duimstra and Peoples reimagine common, everyday objects in order to investigate the ways in which value and meaning are created and assigned.
Duimstra is a Michigan artist who has been exhibiting work nationally and internationally since 1979. Much of his work features renewables and found materials.
Peoples, a self-taught artist, is also from Michigan. He experiments with mold-making, primarily casting in wax. Much of his imagery is derived from the memory and materials of childhood.
