Playing with Stress title of 2017 Smucker Lecture
Lynn Coghill, graduate professor and director of the master of social work program at the University of Pittsburgh, will present “Playing with Stress,” on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. in Yoder Recital Hall.
Coghill will engage the audience with practices that play with rather than fight stress. She is a certified cognitive therapist who specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders and complicated bereavement.
A former ballet dancer with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Coghill now uses dance as a part of worship and to heal trauma in diverse setting.
This is the 2017 Smucker Lecture, which brings significant contributors to the field of social work to Bluffton. It is named for Carl Smucker, who taught social work on campus for 34 years beginning in 1944.
This event is free and open to the public.
In addition Bluffton University’s social work department and Coghill will present a workshop called, “Bridging the Unspeakable: Using Expressive Art Approaches for Trauma-Focused Cognitive Therapy,” from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 on the third floor of the Town Hall assembly room located at 154 N. Main St., Bluffton. The registration deadline is Monday, Feb. 27. There is no cost to attend, but preregistration is required. To register, contact Nancy Neff at [email protected]. An application for CEUs has been submitted.
