Camerata Singers host home concert March 19
Bluffton University’s Camerata Singers will perform in a variety of locations during the group’s two mini-tours in March and April, including a concert in their home venue, Yoder Recital Hall.
At 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, the choir will perform at Bluffton University’s Yoder Recital Hall.
"Hymns and Songs of the Church” is the theme of the program, conducted by Dr. Mark J. Suderman, professor of music and director of choral activities at Bluffton. The program will feature sacred choral music from the Renaissance period to the present, including music from a variety of styles and genres: gospel music, choruses from major works, spirituals, hymn arrangements and more.
The chamber choir was established in 1984 as an outgrowth of a larger mixed choir. Camerata Singers maintains an active schedule of more than 20 annual performances on campus, in area churches and schools, and on tour.
The choir tours domestically each year, plus includes international travel and study every three or four years. Most recently, Camerata Singers enjoyed a three-week cross-cultural experience to Great Britain in May 2015.
This year’s 28-member, select choral ensemble includes four Presidential Scholars, numerous officers in campus student organizations, an average GPA of 3.6, and represents over 16 majors on campus.
Ana Yoder Coulter, adjunct professor of music and staff accompanist at Bluffton University, will accompany the choir on both piano and organ.
A number of student instrumentalists will also perform on some of the pieces. These instruments will include a trumpet, saxophone and flute.
