Cabaret for a Cause funds Camp Invention program
Bluffton University recently held its eighth annual Cabaret for a Cause. The semi-formal event for undergraduates features student performances of songs from a wide genre of musical styles.
Each year a different organization is selected to receive the proceeds from ticket sales. This year, a donation of $1,300 was given to Camp Invention, a program of the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
“Cabaret for a Cause is a fundraiser dressed up as a student activity, fusing the enduring values of community and service into one night that students will remember even after they have graduated,” said Brent Schroeder, assistant director of the University Event Complex and Marbeck Center.
In the last eight years, the event has raised nearly $8,500. In previous years, funds were donated to Mennonite Central Committee, Lima Rescue Mission, The Jamii Project, Community Mennonite Church of Chicago, Vs. Cancer, Open Arms, and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
This year’s event was organized by students including: Timothy Booth ’19, Emily Rush ’19, Kenny Beeker ’18, Amanda Hunt ’17, Taylor Lewis ’18 and Alicia Loch ’18.
Acts included original compositions and cover songs, enjoyed by nearly 150 students, faculty and staff in attendance.
