Local authors hold book-signing event at Maple Crest
Four Maple Crest published authors were honored in late July in the Family Room at Maple Crest, with a reception and book-signing event.

They are Ruth Ayers, Carol Diller, Carl Wolf and Claralice Wolf. In 2001, Ruth Ayers and Carol Diller, along with Elnor Rodehefer, Amelia Basinger, and Dorothy Williams, authored the cookbook " Memories of Mother's Cooking (Cooking in the Swiss Community 1915-1935)."
These cookbooks are still available through the Swiss Historical Society for $7 each. Originally, the money made through the sale of the books provided the funds for building the outdoor kitchen at the Swiss Homestead. Now, all proceeds are used for general upkeep of the Homestead.
Carol Diller also wrote three family history books. The first book begins in 1750 and the other two in 1850. These are personal books that are not for sale.
Carl Wolf edited and condensed eight volumes of a first edition of the writings of Jonathan Edwards into one readable book in 1958 titled "Jonathan Edwards on Evangelism.
The first edition books sold for $2 a piece in the 1950s, but a copy today costs at least $41. Claralice Hanna Wolf presented her latest publication - a comtemplative spiritual fantasy called "Prynne's Island," where the main character sets out to build a society based on love and mutual respect. Claralice is selling copies of her book for $13.
Although the reception was a "come and go" affair, the authors were given time at 4:00 p.m. to share formally about the books they had written. Several community members from the Bluffton writers' group came specifically to hear Claralice Wolf speak as she is a member of their group.
Persons in attendance had the opportunity to purchase books and have them signed by the authors.
