October 11, 2017
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team surrendered two second half goals en route to a 2-0 victory by Mount St. Joseph on a rainy Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017. Bluffton dipped to 1-11 and 1-3 in the Heartland Conference, while MSJ improved to 4-7-3 on the season and 1-2-1 in the HCAC.
After a back-and-forth first half that did not net a score, the Lions converted just 2:30 into period two when Seth Freppon drilled his team-best eighth goal of the season from the far right wing. MSJ made it 2-0 in minute 64 after Cody Hacker fed Alex Gross for the final tally of the match.
The visitors finished with a 16-10 edge in shots, but just a slim 7-6 margin on frame. MSJ was whistled for 11 more fouls (17-6) while forcing six of 11 corner kicks. Freshman Alex Foster (Howard/Mount Vernon) fired a team-high five shots with two on frame. Levi Smith (Bluffton) came up with five saves for the Beavers.
Bluffton is back at home on Saturday, Oct. 11, when the Beavers host HCAC-rival Hanover College. The match is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. following the Bluffton-Hanover women's contest.
