Volleyball rolls through Anderson in four sets

Bluffton, Ohio - The Beaver volleyball team took down visiting Anderson University in four sets (25-18, 25-14, 23-25, 25-10) on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Bluffton improved to 14-10 overall and 4-2 in the Heartland Conference, while Anderson dropped to 10-16 overall and 1-5 in the HCAC.
Bluffton was able to come back from a third set loss and finish off the Ravens with a dominating performance in the fourth when the Beavers pounded 14 kills with no errors for a blistering .483 hitting percentage. Bluffton dominated from the service line going on multiple runs in the four-set match. In the second set, senior Mary Jo Bash (Carey) went on a five-point jag to help the Beavers run away from Anderson.
Bluffton tallied nine aces in the four sets. Three came from Bethany Martini (Pickerington/North) who also led the way with 15 kills for the Beavers. Freshman Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) knocked down 12 kills and Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) helped the cause with nine counters on just one error for a .471 hitting percentage. Sophomore Carley Lester (Chesapeake) tallied eight kills and two block assists.
Weisgarber had a tremendous night with 37 assists and the junior is 3rd in the HCAC in assists. Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) and Abby Rohrbach (New Knoxville) were all over the backcourt with 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Jessie Gibson (Warsaw/River View) chipped in three blocks, while freshman Sarah Heydinger (Tiro/Buckeye Central) contributed four blocks and four kills.
Bluffton will be back at the Dam on October 20 to match up against Heartland Conference foe Franklin for a rare Friday night get together in the Sommer Center. Come out and cheer on your Beavers!
