Koch's FG with 6 seconds left, puts BHS on top of Carey
Big mistake if you left Harmon Field early on Friday night. Even worse if you were a Carey fan.
The Blue Devils, who demolished the Pirates last year, were tied at 28-28 with seconds on the clock.
Then came the big defensive play from the Big Red. BHS tackled Bryce Orians for a 3-yard loss as the Blue Devils were in a punt formation. The big play came with 30 ticks remaining in the game.
With only 6 seconds on the Harmon Field clock, the Pirates' Christian Koch booted a 33-yard field goal.
The result: BHS 31 - Carey 28.
Outstanding performances from BHS were turned in by Hunter Joseph who passed for three TDs covering 174 yards. R.J. Stratton was one of his favorite targets. Stratton caught 4 passes for 133 yards and three of Blufftons TDs. Brandon Deeds added a 30-yard TD run for BHS.
The non-conference contest leaves both teams at 1-1 on the season. Bluffton launches its Northwest Conference season next Friday, entertaining Delphos Jefferson at 7:30 p.m.
The game was the first played at Harmon Field following the extensive renovation to the stadium this summer. The game was also played under new lights.
