Let there be light!
Will this year’s Ream Holiday Folk Art display be bright enough for you? Probably.
On Nov. 4, volunteers from the Bluffton Cultural Affairs Committee, under the direction of Jeff Stratton hung Christmas tree lights all the way to the top on five trees in the Presbyterian Church yard.
This is the first time in over a dozen years that lights go all the way to the top of the trees.
And, this is the first of two steps to place the Harry and Dorothy Ream folk art display on the church lawn. The second step is Saturday, Nov. 10. This weekend volunteers will place the holiday cutouts on the lawn.
But, back to the lights.
This year, thanks to a $5,000 grant from the Hancock County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, 5,000 new LED lights are added to the display. That translates to 1.4 miles of new lights on the trees. The new lights join 2,500 new lights added for the first time, last year.
Jeff said that the tallest tree in the churchyard has 25 strands of light. Thanks to the efforts of 15 to 18 volunteers and three movable lifts going up 55 and 60 feet, the lights are up. Gary Lugibihl offered one of his lifts for the project. The additional two lifts were rented for the day.
Volunteers are needed for Saturday’s cut up placement. Contact Lynda Best for more details.
The lights will turn on Saturday night, Nov. 25.
