By Cort Reynolds
CAREY - Host Carey defeated Bluffton 8-2 in a non-league softball game Tuesday evening.
The Blue Devils improved to 2-0 with the win while Bluffton evened its mark at 1-1 with the loss.
Carey raced to a 6-0 lead before the Pirates plated two runs in the top of the sixth.
But the hosts scored two more times in the bottom of the sixth to provide the final margin.
Avery Rumer rapped out three hits to pace the Pirate offense. Libby Schaadt doubled, singled and drove in both Bluffton runs. Katie Prater also contributed a double and a single.
Bridget Mulholland struck out 14 Pirates, walked none and scattered eight hits to get the win.
Losing pitcher Schaadt struck out five Devils and allowed five earned runs in six innings of work. She gave up nine hits as Carey scored three unearned runs.
