Construction begins Monday

Jefferson Street will close from Main Street to the County Line Road beginning Monday, June 3, in a major renovation of the street.
“The extent of this project will be from Main Street to the west side of the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks, which covers a distance of roughly 1,300 feet,” Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, told The Icon.
The project scope includes the following components:
• Full depth road reconstruction of Jefferson Street., with new sidewalks and gutter the full length of the project.
• 6’ wide “bike friendly sidewalk” will be installed on north side of street.
• Proposed to be connected to future 6’ sidewalk in 2020 on Jefferson Street to the County Line Road (Jefferson St. Improvements – Phase II).
• ADA curb ramps, pedestrian crossings,
• LED flashing beacons at railroad.• Small easements requested on two corners (Main and Vance) – extended tree lawns to 4+ feet when possible. Village will request work agreements from each property owner for restoration of property (new meter settings, final grading).
• Replacement of the existing 4-inch water main on East Jefferson St. from Main Street to Vance Street with an 8-inch PVC water main. Existing creek crossing under the Riley Creek will be terminated.
• Storm sewer improvements consisting of new sewer pipe, catch basins and manholes.
