Black-bellied whistling-duck, rare to Ohio, spotted at the Buckeye
A duck very rare to Ohio was spotted at the Buckeye on Oct. 26 and has apparently remained near the quarry this week. The bird is a Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, according to Linda Houshower, who has been watching the bird.
This duck has only been seen in the state four or five times. It lives in Texas, Florida and Louisiana.
Linda says that it's very cooperative and fun to see with its bright red bill, it can't be missed. Birdwatchers from across Ohio are coming to see it.
The duck is smaller than mallards. It has a grey face, white eye ring, and striking rust, black and white pattern.
