Elwood James was retired manager of the Mt. Cory Elevator
E. Elwood James, 84, of Mt. Cory, died July 23, 2019, at his residence. Elwood was born July 7, 1935, in Vanlue to the late G. E. and Irene (Haugh) James. On Dec. 22, 1956 he married Mildred Hanna James who survives.
Elwood graduated from Cory-Rawson High School in 1953. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was honored with the Kentucky Colonel. Elwood was the manager of the Mt. Cory Elevator. He was an active member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Bluffton, and the Findlay Glass Club. Elwood was an active co-op tractor collector and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors also include a daughter, Carol Steegman of Arlington; two sons, Kurtis (Mary) James of Jenera, Matthew (Stephanie) James of Findlay; five granddaughters, Jamie Steegman, Mackenzie James, Loryn Morton, Abbigail James, Morgan James; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Dorothy) James of Dunkirk; and two sisters, Jeanette Warren of Bluffton and Joanne Hawk of Findlay.
Elwood was preceded in death by a brother, Earl James.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at Pleasant View United Methodist Church, rural Bluffton. Pastor Mark Fuerstenau officiating. Burial will be in Clymer Cemetery following the service where military honors will take place.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View United Methodist Church or Bridge Hospice.
