By Cort Reynolds
SPENCERVILLE - The Bluffton girls soccer team lost a tough Northwest Conference defensive battle at Spencerville Thursday evening, 2-0.
Defending NWC champion Spencerville scored early in the eighth minute and took a 1-0 lead to intermission.
After more than 70 minutes of scoreless play, the Bearcats then added a goal in the final minute to snap a four-match Bluffton win streak.
The Lady Pirates drop to 4-3-1 overall and 3-1 in NWC play with the defeat. The first-place Bearcats improved to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the NWC with the win.
Bluffton put 10 of its 19 shots on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net.
Four of the mere five Spencerville shots were on goal.
The Bearcats made nine goalie saves while Bluffton saved two.
Bluffton next plays at Upper Sandusky Tuesday, Sept. 17 in a non-league battle.
