Pirate boys' soccer improve to 11-1-1 with third straight victory

VAN BUREN - The visiting Bluffton boys soccer team jumped to an early lead and made it stand up for a 2-1 non-league win at Van Buren Tuesday evening.
The Pirates improved to 11-1-1 with their third straight victory.
Joshua Mehaffie scored just two minutes into the game to give Bluffton a 1-0 lead. Jonathan Schriner netted the other Pirate goal in the 30th minute to make it 2-0 at intermission.
VB's Nick McCracken ruined the shutout attempt with a goal in the 59th minute. But the Pirates were able to hold the Black Knights scoreless the last 21 minutes to preserve the win.
Bluffton doubled VB in shots 18-9, and put seven shots on goal to four by the Knights. VB was credited with five saves, the Pirates with three.
Bluffton hosts Shawnee Saturday, October 5 at 10 a.m.
