Beaver VB team beats Wilmington in 3
The Bluffton University volleyball team was back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, as they welcomed Wilmington College to Copeland Court to close up non-conference play. The Beavers defeated the Quakers 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-19) to improve to 4-15 on the season thanks to their second straight victory.
Junior Remi Bower (Deshler/Patrick Henry) torched the Wilmington defense, knocking down 14 kills with just two errors for a red-hot 0.522 hitting percentage. Carley Lester (Chesapeake) hammered home seven winners against no errors for a blistering .636 hitting percentage. Also getting in on the action up front was freshman Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) who hit .625 with five kills on just eight swings. Sophomore Maddie White (Ashland) dished out 28 helpers in the victory.
Sophomore Kia Rainey (Adrian/Madison) led the Beaver defense with nine digs. Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) and Chelsey Taylor (Hicksvill) pitched in eight and seven pickups, respectively. Rainey and Campbell both fired a career-high three aces for the Beavers.
The women begin HCAC play on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they travel to Earlham College, meeting a band of Quakers for the second time in just four days. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Richmond, Ind.
