GROB welcomes 19 new apprentices on Monday, June 15. 

The GROB apprenticeship is a four-year program that combines on-the-job training, hands-on learning, and a company-paid college education through Rhodes State College. The addition of the 2020 apprenticeship class will bring the total number of current apprentices at GROB to 92. 

The 2020 application period proved to be especially competitive with over 100 applications submitted. The incoming apprenticeship class has an average high school GPA of 3.52 and is made up of students from local high schools (Ada, Allen East, Bluffton, Columbus Grove, Cory-Rawson, Lima Central Catholic, Ottawa-Glandorf, Riverdale, Upper Sandusky and Van Wert) as well as from out-of-state (Tennessee).

The apprenticeship program at GROB Systems has been in place at the Bluffton production plant for 30 years now. The goal of the program is to build the company’s future workforce with employees who are trained in a highly technical way that matches the growing needs of their customers and products. To date, GROB Bluffton has hired and trained over 375 apprentices. 

Current and past apprentices make up close to 40 percent of the total workforce at GROB. The program has expanded in recent years, bringing on additional staff and hiring more apprentices than ever before to meet company needs. 

In the past five years, GROB has retained 85 percent of their apprentices.
