Watch the BHS fall drama production on the Icon
The show must go on.
That’s the attitude of this fall’s Bluffton High School’s drama club members.
The show is going on as you read this and, you may watch the video production of it on the Icon.
Although it lacks an official title, the performance involves a series of monologues presented by 17 BHS students.
Click here to watch, or go to the Bluffton school website, open the high school page, next open the club page. Or, go to the bottom of this story and click on the video.
Kevin Gratz, director, responded to the Icon’s question: “How do you create high school theatre during the age of covid-19?”
Gratz: “It's a challenge.”
The main challenge involved pull it off with all the distancing issues of the cast and the potential audience.
That answer resulted in countless Zoom rehearsals with Gratz sitting in his basement working with student actors sitting in their own homes.
Here’s the prologue to the performance, offering some additional background:
“Today we allow you to observe a drama club meeting, or if you would prefer a drama class.
“Each student has been given the assignment – to prepare and present a monologue to the rest of the class.
“While on camera the students remove their mask – as they have been properly distanced from others – then mask up with finished.
Attached at the bottom of this story is the program, listing the student presenter and their monologue titles.
Gratz said that the monologues are from various sources and each is approximately 3 minutes in length. Each monologue is memorized and the subjects run the gambit from silly to serious.
Now, sit back, dim the lights, pretend you are in the middle school cafetorium, click here to watch and enjoy an evening of monologues.
You may create your on intermission simply by pausing the video at any time.
