Rockets sweep Pirates in opener

BLUFFTON - The host Buffton baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Pandora-Gilboa in a season-opening twinbill Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates fell to 0-2 with the defeats, while P-G starts out 2-0.
Rocket hurler Eric Gerschutz pitched a three-hitter in the opener as P-G broke the game open with a five-run second inning.
In the nightcap, Drew Miller struck out 11 Pirates in five innings as three Rocket pitchers combined to pitch a one-hitter.
Bluffton plated four runs in a last-gasp bottom of the seventh rally, but came up just short.
P-G's Silas Schmenk collected six hits on the day.
The Rockets out-hit the Pirates 20-4 in the twinbill.

Bluffton is scheduled to host McComb (0-1) Monday evening. The Pirates visit Carey (2-0) Tuesday, then entertain USV March 31.
Carey swept Cory-Rawson 11-3 and 12-2 Saturday afternon.
