The Bluffton University women's soccer team opened up its season at home on a very comfortable Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, against Oberlin College. Despite a strong effort from the Beavers, an early goal from Oberlin powered them to a 4-0 defeat of the home team. Bluffton fell to 0-1 on the season, while Oberlin (1-0) secured its first victory of the year.
The visitors netted a shot just over three minutes into the match for an early 1-0 lead. Another first half goal, followed by two more late in the second half, led the Yeowomen to a 4-0 victory over the Beavers.
Oberlin outshot the home team (24-4), including 16-3 on frame. Bluffton did force three more corner kicks (5-2) in the loss. Bluffton's Brielle Collier (Anna) piled up 12 saves, while the Yeowomen needed just three.
The Bluffton women are back in action on Friday, Sept. 3, when they welcome Olivet College to the Sears Complex, Bentley Rd. at Augsburger-Elm. Fans are invited to wear their favorite Hawaiian gear for Hawaiian theme night.
