Sept 3 soccer victory against Olivet women
The Bluffton University women's soccer team secured their first victory of the season when they welcomed Olivet College to the Sears Athletic Complex on a beautiful Friday, Sept. 3. The Beavers were able to hold off the Comets late in the second half, en route to a 2-1 victory. Bluffton improved to 1-1 on the season, while Olivet fell to 0-1.
The Comets netted the first goal of the game just before the 33-minute mark for a 1-0 lead. Bluffton's Julia Gibson (New Carlisle/Tecumseh) answered back when her free kick connected with the back of the net to tie it up 1-1 going into the half. The Beavers notched their 2-1 victory when Katelyn Burden (Sidney) collected a corner kick from Taylor Dye (Big Prairie/West Holmes) and hit paydirt less than two minutes into the second stanza.
Olivet outshot the home team, 11-9, with six on goal, compared to Bluffton's four, but the Beavers were able to force one more corner kick (4-3). Bluffton goalie Brielle Collier (Anna) picked up her first collegiate win with five saves while the Comets tallied two.
The Beavers are back in action at home on Tuesday, Sept. 7, when they face off against Grace Christian. The match is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start at the Sears Complex.
