September 4 split for University netters
The Bluffton University volleyball team rebounded from a Saturday morning sweep at the hands of Ohio Wesleyan by slicing through Trine in four sets in the afternoon. Bluffton improved to 2-2 on the season with the September 4 split.
Ohio Wesleyan was too much, rolling to a sweep of the Beavers thanks to scores of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-21. Senior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) led the home squad with 10 kills and three blocks. Junior Maddie White (Ashland) doled out 16 assists, while Kia Rainey (Adrian, MI/Madison) picked up eight digs against the Battling Bishops.
Bluffton took down Trine University in four sets, despite being down two starters, including four-year libero Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf). After splitting the first two, the Beavers secured their second win of the season with a pair of 25-21 victories.
Posey was unstoppable with her second double-digit kill performance in five hours. She dominated the Thunder with 10 kills, five blocks and two aces en route to All-Spiketacular Tournament honors. Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) and White followed with nine and seven spikes, respectively. White and Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) handed out 19 and 16 helpers for the home team.
Freshman Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) torched the Thunder with seven service aces! She also tacked on five kills and two blocks for good measure. Rainey took advantage of the different colored jersey with a team-best 16 digs. Junior Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) chipped in with 11 pickups.
Bluffton will hit the road on Wednesday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Adrian College for a 6 p.m. first serve.
