The Bluffton University volleyball team traveled to Erie, Penn., for a weekend tournament at Penn State-Behrend on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021. Baldwin Wallace took down the Beavers in straight sets before Bluffton dropped the host Lions in five sets.

Baldwin Wallace opened the match with a slim 25-22 victory in the lidlifter before a convincing 25-15 win in set two. The Yellow Jackets closed out the sweep wit a 25-20 win in the clincher.

Junior Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) paced the Beavers with eight kills and a .312 hitting percentage. Freshman Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) and senior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) followed with six and five kills, respectively.

Junior Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) handed out 15 helpers against the Jackets. Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) both notched double-digit digs with 20 and 13, respectively.

With Penn State-Behrend and Bluffton knotted at one set apiece, Bluffton opened an 18-11 lead over the hosts. It wasn't enough as the Beavers dropped set three 25-22. A 25-21 victory in the fourth set cleared the way for a clincher that saw Bluffton squeak out a 15-13 win in the tiebreaker!

Alysha Like (McComb) and Posey led the victors with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Barnett followed with nine winners, while Maddie White (Ashland) and Kelly Armentrout (Lima/Shawnee) chipped in with eight and seven kills.

White doled out a team-best 24 assists and Price was in double figures again with 14 assists. Kleman swept up the floor with 26 digs. Also in double digits for pickups were White with 16 and Kia Rainey (Adrian, MI/Madison) with 15. Like and White stuffed the Lions with seven and six blocks, respectively. Armentrout added four block assists for the visitors.

Bluffton will be back on the court in less than 12 hours when the Beavers take on Fredonia at 11 a.m. before wrapping up the weekend with John Carroll from the Ohio Athletic Conference at 1 p.m.
