Lady Pirate kickers overpower Rams
Playing at home, the Bluffton girls soccer team defeated Upper Sandusky 6-1 Thursday, September 30, at Steinmetz Field.
The Pirate girls improved to 9-2-1 overall with the convincing non-league victory. Bluffton has gone 7-0-1 in its last eight matches.
US fell to 5-5-1 with the lopsided loss.
Junior Sami Scoles scored in the second minute of play off an Allison Diller assist to put the Pirates on top for good early.
Senior Reagan Mittendorf made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal in the 12th minute.
Scoles netted her second goal, again from a Diller feed, to advance the lead to 3-0 in the 36th minute.
Pirate Riley Eachus extended the margin to 4-0 three minutes into the second half.
A minute later, Mia Norris found the back of the net for the lone Ram score to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Diller tallied a goal in the 61st minute off a Jordyn O'Connel feed to restore the lead to four.
Bluffton's Marley Kindle added an unassisted goal in the final two minutes to provide the final margin of victory.
The Pirate offense fired 47 shots, 19 of which were on goal. Upper got off eight shots, half of which were on target.
Pirate junior keeper Julia Mehaffie made three saves in goal. The Ram keeper was credited with 14 stops.
This past Monday's scheduled game at home vs. Ada was cancelled because of a shortage of Bulldog players due to injuries and illness.
The Bluffton girls host Kalida (4-5-2) Saturday, October 2 at noon.
The defending Northwest Conference champion Lady Pirates (4-0 NWC) then entertain Columbus Grove (6-1-1, 3-0 NWC) in a showdown that will likely decide the NWC title Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 6:45 p.m.
